ROOM ALLOTMENT -
The room allotment is done in the hostel office for everyone. It is actually a part of the 7th block of the boys’ hostel. Boys are allotted 3 per room and it is 2 per room for girls (which may change to 3 due to shortage of rooms). One can come in groups with their pre-decided roommates and they will be given rooms accordingly; but it is better to come early for this or else the rooms will be already occupied and the roommates will not be as per one’s choice. For the rest, the rooms are chosen by the lots system – which is fair enough.
The room is cleaned before it is handed over. A cot, study table and chair, cupboard and a bookshelf is there for each person. Fan, plug points, light fixtures are in working condition. Some rooms also have lan ports. In case of any problems with these; one can write a complaint in the complaint book which is there in the hostel premises. The repairmen come once a week and such issues are easily sorted out.
A variety of newspapers are also available for subscription at reduced prices for students. They will be hanging around the hostel on the admission day itself with the subscription forms.
An orientation programme is conducted by the college for the students where the college proudly presents its achievements and congratulates the students on their hard work and success. Seeing this, one truly relishes the sweet fruit of their labour! Parents can also attend this programme.
After this the students are led to their respective departments where there is another orientation and the students are introduced to all the facilities and laboratories. This is followed by a “High Tea” in the beach for the students and parents and this is where the parents bid adieu. The pangs of separation can be felt in the heart and can be seen in the face for some; but all this will be long forgotten on beginning the most spectacular journey of our lives!
