A FRESHER'S PERSPECTIVE
I still remember the date. On 27/06/2016, around 10 am, I found myself in the balcony of SJA which was packed with other Freshers who were in a similar condition like me and their parents, filled with pride and hope.
I started to settle slowly within a week or two. Hardly noticing the rising no. of classes and equally increasing no. of phone calls to night canteens, I let myself immerse in the reverberating vastness and beauty of NITK's most precious possession, the paradise of the campus, The BEACH. There is some mystifying force of the beach which lures many of us to itself.
And then, my amazement due to the plethora of non-academic activities in the campus was no less than that of a child . I'm sure, the only reason these fun packed events happened was our seniors. The sense of bonding that they share with us is remarkable . They plan a no.of activities under various club names, leaving hardly any weekend with no plans. Quizzes, games, treasure hunts, sports events ,coding competitions, etc are just a few of them.
But the bitter truth was that, all of us had bought a combo pack of 4 years degree with our respective ranks and it came with multiple quizzes, surprise tests, assignments, EG load, and the mother of all, SEM exams, all occurring in between the "masti" activities I jotted above. Those aware of this theory enjoyed both the meals consciously, but many others (including me) were like a vegetarian, enjoying a mutter paneer heartfully, completely unaware of the spicy chicken 65 on the other side.
As my boat ventured further into the sea of college, surviving whirlpools named END SEMS and facing harsh tides of mess food, I reached the shore, end of first sem.
Now I won't blabber much about the second sem, because the aroma of a fresher vanished from the air around me after the first semester.
But yes, this semester literally flies. Being the shortest semester, one finds it very hard to handle all the tasks efficiently here. And how can I forget the blockbuster of the year, INCIDENT. It was the most enthrilling experience of my first year. After the last gala of the year, we had the end sems, which seemed less cruel this time though xD.
And on one breezy evening, post end sems, I sat on the shore, wondering where did the sea end at all. Here I was pondering over my cloudy thoughts, doubting if I had lived my purpose so far. I could hear vague inner voices, the only thing which I heard clearly and which I had witnessed was, "Time and tide waits for none'.
With a heavy sigh I bid adieu to both, my first year and the beach.
