AN insider's insight
After the incredible roller coaster ride of the past two years, here you are, finally deciding to be part of what I promise to be, four illustrious years of your life, at NITK.
Some of you may be apprehensive to continue here, while some of you might have dreamt of this moment for long. But, whatever it may be, remember, you just have received the fruits of the hardwork you put in the last two years.
Surathkal, this coastal town, 18 km from Mangalore, with its notoriously sweltering heat and humidity houses your home away from home for the immediate future. And may I daresay, I guarantee you that you will already feel nostalgic about your messy, unkempt hostel room the minute you head home for the first major break in your academic year, the 5 day weekend of Gandhi Jayanti, Vijaya Dashsami (Dusshera), and Id – Ul – Zuha, October 2nd to October 6th.
First year in NITK is going to be a memorable year for you, mark my words. That inexplicable feeling of bonding with complete strangers over a cup of coffee at Coffee Dabba on a cold, damp monsoon day; or that exhilarating rush of the first game of football you play – returning to your rooms with those mud soaked clothes, high fiving your new bros; or the incessant naach – gaana that happens everytime the entire college gathers at the SAC to watch an India match being streamed on a big screen; all these experiences will get you hooked to the undying spirit of love and brotherhood in NITK.
NITK provides a remarkable haven both for the materialistic and the abstract –minded people. Here’s what I mean by it.
This is a place, where your hard work will pay off. You have come to a place, where the frustration of not being able to reap results despite the hard work is just a distant memory. You will realise, that there is more to a college than the academics. Let it be the hard work you put in sports, your incredible skill in basketball, your undying passion for badminton, your never – say – never attitude for volleyball, sweat it out, and gain your rewards and laurels by winning tournaments and making it to the college .
Let it be your amazing intellectual skills, your skills in coding – we have the perfect clubs to hone them even more, have a mind for public speaking or debating– the Lit Club and the Debating Society (DebSoc) will provide you with tournaments of national importance where you can go toe to toe with the best. Do you have a passion for racing and to build race cars – we have two extremely competent and hardworking racing teams in college. An inextinguishable passion for arts and music – The Artists’ Forum (AF) and the Music Club are tailor made for you then.
Whatever it may be, if you are willing to put in the efforts, you will get the opportunities to build up that coveted resume.
And for those who look beyond the material gains and look to connect with the spirit of NITK, you will not be disappointed. I’ll share with you a statement which an outgoing student made this year, “It is tough to get into NITK. Four years later it is tough to leave NITK.”
You’ll have to take my word on it, expressing the bond is tough, and I’ll leave it that way.
Life at NITK is awesome; you have at your disposal a blend of efficient, world class education, extra curricular activities to shape up your skills and sports. It is something I personally wouldn’t give up locked up in my room the entire time trying to solely increase my CGPA or preparing for giving my entrance exams the next year, because, remember, the pasture always appears greener on the other side of the hill.
Get rid of your apprehension, place no more doubt in your selection of the college, you have worked hard and made it to a prestigious institute of our country. Make the most of it!
We will always be there to help you, contact us any time via Facebook or e-mail and we’ll respond as soon as possible.
