1.NITK RACING(FSAE) AND BAJA NITK
Formula 1. Burning rubber on tarmac. Pistons, gears and crankshafts working in tandem to send a 700kg car screaming down the track. If this sets your heart a-thumping, NITK Racing and BAJA are the place for you.
NITK Racing and BAJA are very prestigious clubs that accept students every year to build cars and race them in intercollegiate competitions. The entrance process is highly competitive and consists of a written test followed by several rounds of interviews. The selection for those interested in building the electronics of the car happens in the odd sem and for those interested in the mechanical aspects and building the actual car (engine, chassis, suspension, etc) happens in the even sem.
As mentioned it is HIGHLY competitive and students study for months about cars to crack the test and interviews.
The lucky few who get selected build a car to take part in FSAE and BAJA, two intercollegiate competitions organised by the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE).
The BAJA Team builds an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to take part in the BAJA Competition. Students have to take part in all stages of these competitions, such as marketing and fund raising and not just building the car. Students have to stay back in college for a couple of weeks in the holidays, but the experience and knowledge gained is well worth the sacrifice.
